National rugby league team of Serbia U19 has officially begun the training for Rugby League U19 European Championship. This weekend was the first gathering that began with a meeting in the Federation’s premises on the Republic Square. After the meeting, the first training was held, in the balloon of the Sport Center Trudbenik at Zvezdara. On the first day of training, 20 players from Serbia has gathered under the leadership of their captain Vladimir Milutinovic from Partizan. The remaining 10 from 30 planned players had excused themselves to Team manager Manak Slobodan, as well as to coach Hadzic Admir.
The first meeting and the presentation was held by the Director of the Serbian U19 national team, Blagoje Stoiljkovic, which said:
The Serbian Rugby League Board of Directors made efforts to provide the minimum conditions for almost seven months of preparation, until the start of the Championships. On top of 30 players from domestic clubs, such as C.Zvezda, Partizan, Radnički (Novi Beograd), Dorćol, Car Dušan Silni (Paraćin), Radnički (Nova Pazova) i Soko (Vranje), on the list were around 10 more players from Australia with Serbian heritage, which is allowed by rules of RLIF. Although the championship is played in cup system, it starts with quarter-finals and Serbia is playing with England, the world’s force. Nevertheless, the Serbian ambitions are great. By defeating the England, Serbia would be in the run for the medal, which is not unreasonable.
Next to the players, the backup for expert staff comes also from Australia – Nil Bijorac (Head coach), Stevan Babic (Advisor), Bret Davidson (Assistant coach) i Branislav Zec (Condition coach). The named players will all be competing for the 23 available positions in the team. Using the experience from Australia and talent from Serbia, with hard work, the medal is within reach. We will do everything in our power to grab it.
The camp ends tomorrow. One training is foreseen at 10.00 AM, which will mainly work on fitness and condition.
